Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung affirmed his country’s commitment to create more favorable conditions for French and Japanese investors to run businesses effectively in Vietnam.

During his meeting with co-chairman of the Supreme Council for French-Vietnam Economic Cooperation Development Jacques Oudin in Hanoi March 19, Dung said Vietnam is interested in French investment as the two countries have time-honored ties as well as cultural similarities.

Dung praised the council’s first session in France early October 2006, and suggested the two sides implement projects on effectively using safe water resources, building a metro system in Hanoi, as well as building super markets.

He urged France to invest in upgrading the Hanoi Medical University into an international-standard university to train medical doctors for Vietnam and the region.

Jaques Oudin expressed hopes that the Vietnamese government will continue to support the council's activities, especially encouraging French businesses to invest in Vietnam's transportation, energy, environmental protection, banking, insurance and pharmaceutical sectors.

Jacques Oudin also conveyed to Dung the French President's letter inviting him to visit France.

While receiving a delegation from the Japanese Ministry of Economics, Trade and Industry and Japanese firms in Hanoi on March 19, Dung also emphasized that the governments of Vietnam and Japan will create the best conditions for Japanese firms to do business effectively in Vietnam.

The Japanese delegation was headed by Deputy Minister Kozo Yamamoto. The Japanese delegates visited Vietnam for the first Vietnam-Japan energy cooperation forum, which attracted more than 200 representatives from Japanese firms.

At talks, the Vietnamese Prime Minister asked the Japanese side to accelerate implementation of the railway and North-South expressway projects, and the Hoa Lac Hi-tech Zone project, for mutual benefit.

Kozo Yamamoto informed Dung of the results of the forum and said that Japan will carry out energy projects in Vietnam, like the Phu My thermal power plant project, and assist Vietnam in pre-feasibility study work for Vietnam’s atomic energy projects.

He also said the three projects Dung mentioned are under preparation, for implementation as soon as possible, and the two countries may sign a trade agreement later this year. (The People, VNA, Website of CPV)
