World's Top Aluminium Maker Opens Vietnam Office
The world’s biggest aluminum and alumina producer, the Russian-owned United Company RUSAL, has opened an office in Vietnam as part of its worldwide expansion strategy, Russia’s Daily Kommercant reported.
RUSAL seeks to exploit Vietnam’s enormous energy potential and rich bauxite reserves, widening its raw material base, it said.
The company is likely to set up a number of new energy and metal projects in the country, and a complete production cycle from bauxite development to producing primary aluminum and alloys.
RUSAL, another Russian company SUAL and Swiss Glencore, merged last March to become the world’s biggest aluminum company.
Incorporated in Cyprus, United Company RUSAL now has four bauxite producing units, ten alumina plants, 14 aluminum plants, and three foil rolling mills.
In 2007-2010, Vietnam prioritizes seven industries including bauxite aluminum exploitation and processing, along with textiles and apparel, footwear, plastics, agro-forestry and fisheries processing, steel, and chemicals. (kommersant.com, thanhniennews.com)
