Vietnam Seeks Further Economic Ties with Malaysia

Both National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong and Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung called on Malaysia to bolster economic ties with the booming Southeast Asian country in the coming time.
 
At the meeting with visiting President of the Malaysian Senate Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Pawateh in Hanoi June 8, Prime Minister Dung hoped Malaysian companies would invest in power projects in Vietnam in the form of build-operate-transfer (BOT).
 
He reiterated Vietnam 's policy of promoting mutually-benefiting cooperation with Malaysia and said he will pay an official visit to Malaysia as guest of PM Abdullah Ahmad Badawi in the near future.
 
Abdul Hamid Pawanteh told Dung that Malaysia will invest in areas of its strength in Vietnam. He added that Malaysia may invest US$1.6 billion to build a power plant in Vietnam.
 
Trong, at the meeting, also said Vietnamese legislative body would fully support the 28th ASEAN Inter Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) General Assembly, which will be hosted by Malaysia in August.

The two-way trade revenue between Vietnam and Malaysia was US$3 billion in 2006 and nearly US$2 billion in 2005. (VNA)
