Viettel Becomes Largest Mobile Service Provider
The military-owned Viettel Mobile outstripped Vinaphone and MobiFone to become the largest mobile service provider in Vietnam.
Viettel Mobile, which is operated by Viettel Telecom, a branch of Viettel Corp, is now serving more than 10 million subscribers and providing 30 million voice dialogue minutes a day.
In the first six months of the year, Viettel Mobile had an additional 6.5 million mobile subscribers or 45 per cent of the new subscribers in the market.
The firm’s market share increased to 35 per cent from 27 per cent in late 2006.
Viettel Corp. posted revenue of VND7 trillion (US$437.5 million) in the first half of 2007, equal to the amount it made 2006 or about 23 per cent of the post and telecom sector’s total revenue. (VNA)
