Motorbike Output Up 29.2 per cent in Jan-July
Vehicle manufacturers in Vietnam are forecast to produce 1.72 million motorbikes in the first seven months of 2007, up 29.2 per cent on year, the government’s General Statistics Office (GSO) said.
In July, the motorcycle industry manufactures 255,600 units, up 26.5 per cent on year.
The soaring output is attributable to the prospect of strong demand in the domestic market this year. Vietnamese people are estimated to buy 2 million motorbikes this year.
Recently, two largest motorbike makers in the country, Honda Vietnam and Yamaha Vietnam, built new plants in the country to raise their production capacity. Both firms will be able to produce 1.5 million units in one or two years to come.
Vietnam is now home to 52 motorbike companies, which have a combined annual output of over three million units, including one million of Honda Vietnam and around 700,000 from Yamaha Vietnam. (GSO July 2007)
