Fisheries Industry Uses US$31.3Mln for Bio-Tech Application
The fisheries ministry of Vietnam has decided to spend VND500 billion (nearly US$31.3 million) on carrying out project developing and applying bio-technology in fisheries from now to 2020, state media reported Tuesday.
The project’s main goals are to boost application of scientific researches in production, technology transfer, strengthen human resource for the fisheries and foster international cooperation in fisheries bio-technology.
Focusing on scientific researches to create new high yielding and quality aquatic verities and bio-tech finished products for aquaculture and to apply more bio-tech to reduce post-harvest loss, are also important targets set by the project.
The project, which has got approval from the Prime Minister, also aims to bring Vietnam’s fisheries bio-tech to a new high, equal to ASEAN countries.
According to the ministry statistics, Vietnam gained US$1.64 billion from seafood exports in the first six months of this year, up 17 per cent on-year over 2006. (Vietnam & World Economy)
