Vinashin to Build Sixteen 316,000-ton Ships for India, Israel
Vietnam’s state-run Vinashin Business Group will build sixteen 316,000 ton cargo ships for Indian and Israeli shipping firms, local media said.
This is the largest ship to be built in Vietnam, a company official said.
Dung Quat shipyard, which is located in central Vietnam, will build the ships, he added.
However, no detail about the contract value and delivery of the ships is made available.
Vinashin, the largest shipbuilder in Vietnam, earlier said that its shipbuilding contract value has exceeded US$12 billion, sufficient works for its shipyards to do until 2010.
Vinashin is also building 27 ships with loading capacity of 53,000 DWT each and five 34,000 ton ships for UK-based Graig Investment Group.
The shipwright also makes eight 36,000-ton bulk cargo vessels for Cyprus.
Vinashin reported its revenues of VND6.4 trillion (US$400 million) revenue in the first six months this year, up 80 per cent on year.
Vinashin reported revenues of nearly VND11,500 billion (US$718.75 million) in 2006, up 44.1 per cent on year. In 2007, Vinashin targets to raise revenues to VND18,500 billion (US$1.16 billion). (Vietstock.com.vn)
