Vinacomin to Build 140MW Hydropower Plant in Central Highlands
Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin) will build a 140-MW hydropower plant in the central highlands provinces of Lam Dong and Dak Nong, local media reported.
Vinacomin plans to invest VND3.66 trillion (US$228.75 million) in the project, to generate 6,362 GWh of electricity annually.
The plant is due for groundbreaking in early 2008 and completion in 2010. Reportedly, provincial authorities in Lam Dong province have given nod to the project.
Vinacomin reported to produce 23.8 million tons of clean coal in the first seven months this year, up 12.9 per cent on-year.
A source from the Electricity of Vietnam Group (EVN) said that Vietnam will lack 4.3-10.3 billion kWh of power between 2007 and 2009 due to the country’s growing power demand.
Vietnam’s power sector needs VND636 trillion (39.75 billion) in total to develop power infrastructure in 2006-2010, requiring about VND250 trillion (US$15.625 billion) to complete 25 power plants. (Youth)
