District 1 (Q.1) is not only known as the busiest economic centre in Ho Chi Minh City, but also the most beautiful place in the city. That beauty is attributed to the efforts of the staff of the Public Construction Company Q.1, with director Ms Nguyen Thanh Hong as representative.
Before becoming the leader of the company, Ms Nguyen Thanh Hong worked in Trade Company, then became Vice chairman, Ward Secretary, and Director of Cultural House Q.1. Holding various positions helped her accumulate precious real-life experience.
With pleasant scenery, well cared for by environment sanitation workers, Q.1 is a suitable place for the city’s big events, such as the anniversary of victory April 30, exhibitions, cultural exchanges, performance nights and contests. Recently, the Nguyen Hue flower street event became an ideal destination for city residents as well as domestic and foreign tourists during the New Year festival.
To beautify the environment, Ms Hong and her company’s staff are determined to make changes in awareness and activities. In addition, the allocation of work, replacement of ineffective officials and rearrangement of personnel is more and more professional, improving quality. They never complain about hard work even in rush times such as festivals, big events election or the APEC Conference, helping bring success for these events.
In 2006, the company gained over VDN54 billion, surpassing by 13.45 per cent the year’s target. Workers’ income has been increasing, standing at VND2.2 million/capita/month on average, up VND250,000 on year. At present, the company has 639 employees, including 309 female workers. In order to improve the staff’s knowledge of health and disease prevention, the company often holds courses to provide more information about this issue. Besides, the company organises trips and training about labour safety. The company has a scholarship fund for children of poor families and often visits the sick.
In order to boost the company’s development and raise income for staff, Ms Hong pays great attention to developing and diversifying public services and business services. Currently, the company is carrying out services such as the collection and delivery of waste, care of parks, green trees, water drainage, lighting, maintenance of alleys, and the production and trading of trees, flowers, ornamental fish and birds. The company also provides services in colleting garbage in alleys, restaurants, hotels, and dredging sewers for households and grounds care for companies.
The combination of public activities and business services has helped the company diversify its services, reduce the burden for the state and raise income for workers to improve living standard. Ms Hong said that her firm will provide sanitation services including industrial sanitation in the coming time. The company will invest in more facilities and equipment to expand its operational scale and raise service quality and the quality of living for the community.
