The Ho Chi Minh City authoriy are planning to request to extend its US$200 million loan from the World Bank (WB) for another two-year term for Nhieu Loc-Thi Nghe environmental sanitation project which expires at the end of the year.

The city authority has demanded the project contractors to speed up the works to increase the monthly average disbursement rate to $4.5 million from current $1.5 million.

The canal system is being severely polluted because almost waste water is dumped from IPs, EPZs.

The municipal authority kicked off the project six years ago with the WB soft loan of $200 million for 40 years to build a new underground sewer and drainage systems.
