Grasping the potential of Vietnamese economic development, with nearly 30 years experience in manufacturing pre-engineered steel buildings, Saudi Arabia based Zamil Steel introduced its first pre-engineered steel house frames in the Vietnamese market in 1993. Four years later, Zamil Steel Vietnam, a joint venture between Zamil Steel and Japan’s Mitsui, was set up. To date, Zamil Steel has a strong foothold in the Vietnamese market and has become the leading producer of pre-engineered steel buildings.
After finishing the construction of pre-engineered steel buildings in NoiBaiIndustrial Park, Hanoi in 1999, ZSV expanded its factories twice, in 2002 and 2004, enlarging its factory area to 4.5 hectares and output of 5,000 tonnes per month. To date, ZSV has supplied more than 5,000 tonnes of pre-engineered steel for the Vietnamese market and regional markets.
George E. Kobrossy, General Director of ZSV said, “After over 10 years in Vietnam, we recognised that Vietnam has its own strong points in an abundant workforce with studious, loyal, friendly and industrious workers. The stable political system and better business environment attract foreign investment capital. Besides, the Vietnamese Government’s encouragement for exports is also an important factor for us to invest in your country.”
Not only conquering the Vietnamese market, ZSV is also a supplier of pre-engineered steel building solutions for foreign investors in Vietnam and in regional markets. Over 50 per cent of ZSV output is exported. Apart from Southeast Asian nations, ZSV also shipped its steel buildings to Japan, Australia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Mongolia and Nigeria. Currently, ZSV is the largest producer and exporter of pre-engineered steel buildings in Asia, where 17 Zamil Steel offices are located in 10 countries.
To meet the demand in the southern market, ZSV is building its second factory in Vietnam in Amata Industrial Park in Dong Nai Province. The plant, scheduled to be operational in late 2007, is designed to produce 4,500 tonnes of products a month, bringing the total output of the company to over 100,000 tonnes per month. “The opening of the Dong Nai plant will increase Zamil Steel Vietnam’s workforce from 700 to 1,000. This means an additional 300 employees will join the Zamil Steel Vietnam family. This is a continued commitment for long-term business investment of Zamil Steel toward the Vietnamese community,” said George E. Kobrossy.
From the above successes, ZSV has received many prestigious and important certificates. Apart from ISO9001:2000 certificate granted by BVQI in 2001 and the S1 (best) Producer certificate by Singapore Steel Framework Association in 2003, ZSV takes pride in being the only firm in Vietnam to obtain the standard compatibility certificate for production quality and capacity from the Japanese Ministry of Resources and Transport in 2007.
Pre-engineered steel buildings have become popular in Vietnam, thanks to a quick design, production and installation process. The optimisation of material use in designing enables a reduction of costs to suitable levels. Factories, workshops, warehouses, cultural palaces, gymnasiums, stadiums, commercial buildings, meeting halls and aircraft maintenance buildings usually use pre-engineered steel. Standard pre-engineered steel buildings meet the design and production requirements for these structures.
