Vietnam Proposes U.S. to Abandon Apparel Monitoring Mechanism

The Vietnamese Ministry of Trade and Industry has recently recommended the U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) to immediately remove the monitoring mechanism over apparel products originated from Vietnam, state media reported on November 8.
 
The ministry argued that DOC should not impose the mechanism on those exports because Vietnam apparels do no harm to U.S. sector.
 
The ministry strongly protested the U.S.’s mechanism, called it violation of the WTO rules of non-discrimination and noted that Vietnamese producers and exporters are extremely disappointed for this behavior.
 
Earlier, State President Nguyen Minh Triet urged the U.S. government to stop investigation into the country’s textile and apparel exports to the foreign market to maintain goodwill and cooperation, www.fibre2fashion.com said. said.
 
In late October, DOC confirmed no evident to prove Vietnamese dumping apparel products in the U.S. market during the first half of 2007 and the U.S. is scheduled to continue the mechanism until late 2008.
