A US$380-million foreign-invested glass and construction material production plant in southern Ba Ria - Vung Tau province may go bankrupted due to the shortage of gas fuel.

The provincial authorities have refused to assist the project’s investor in gas supply for the hoped plant, which is due to be located in An Ngai-Long Dien industrial and home craft zone, said local official Tran Minh Sanh.

Sanh affirmed that gas supply should be settled by negotiations between the investor’s leader Mr Moshchitskiy Alexander and officials of PetroVietnam Gas Corp (PV Gas).

Mr. Alexander, however, said that he has made gas supply proposals to PV Gas and Vietnam’s oil and gas sector for many times, but received no responses.

In August, the local authorities had given the green light to the project and allowed the investor to rent 45 hectares for the construction.

The press did neither mention name of the investor nor give more details on the project.

According to the Vietnam Energy Construction and Investment Association, Vietnam may encounter with energy exhaustion in the next 15 or 20 years. (Investment)
