Four Giants Inks Deal to Build Vietnam's Biggest Hydropower Plant
Four corporations in Vietnam November 9 clinched deals worth VND13.425 trillion (US$839.06 million) with the state-owned Electricity of Vietnam Group (EVN) to construct the country’s biggest hydroelectric plant of Son La, an industrial association said.
Song Da Corp will act as the general contractor via a contract worth VND9,267 billion (US$579.19 million).
The Infrastructure Development and Construction Corporation (Licogi) will join the project through a deal worth VND1.849 trillion (US$115.56 million), Truong Son Corp VND1.197 trillion (US$74.81 million), and Vietnam Construction and Machinery Installation Corporation (Lilama) VND1.112 trillion (US$69.5 million).
The six-turbine Son La hydropower plant is also the world’s tenth biggest with the designed capacity of 2,400 MW.
The plant costing VND36.93 trillion (US$2.33 billion) was started construction in 2005 and is due for completion in 2012, to generate 10.2 billion kWh of electricity annually. The plant’s first turbine is expected to start operating by December 2010. (Investment & Finance)
