Saigon Garment Starts Building US$6.25 Mln Apparel Plant in South Vietnam
Saigon Garment joint stock company has recently kicked off construction of a VND100 billion (US$6.25 million) apparel factory in southern Ba Ria Vung Tau province, Kinh Te Viet Nam newspaper said.
The unlisted firm will build the facility on an area of 50 hectares in the province's Tan Thanh district and equip with here 40 sewing lines, said the source.
The Ho Chi Minh-based company expected to complete the first phase by May, 2008 and the second phase by 2009.
Once in place, Saigon Garment will employ up to 3,000 local workers.
Apparel enterprises in Vietnam are striving to domestically produce half of their input materials by 2010, to raise competitive edge, according to the Ministry of Industry’s garment and textile development plan until 2015.(
