Vietnam Airlines Sign Deal with RBS to Hire B787-8s
The National Flag carrier, the Vietnam Airlines has signed a contract with Royal Bank of Scotland’s Aviation Capital (RBS) to hire two Boeing B787-8s, the Vietnam Aviation Magazine reported.
The contract will be valid in 140 months, under which the aircrafts will be delivered in June 2012.
The agreement with RBS will bring Vietnam Airlines’ total B787 fleet to 21, and making it the biggest B787s user in ASEAN.
“The agreement marked good beginning of potential cooperation between Vietnam’s national flag carrier and RBS, the world’s fifth biggest bank,” Vietnam Airlines’ General Director Pham Ngoc Minh said at the singing ceremony with Peter Barrett, Chief Executive Officer of RBS Aviation Capital in Sheraton Hotel in Hanoi.
The general director has also confirmed the news, saying that Roll-Royce and General Electric want to provide aircraft engines of four B787s for the airline.
Vietnam Airlines planned to expand its fleet to 60 aircrafts from current 48 in 2010, and nearly 100 in 2015. (Vietnam Aviation Magazine, Labor)
