Vietnam Chemical Company (Vinachem) May 10 broke ground construction of the Ninh Binh Fertilizer Plant with total investment of VND11 trillion (US$667 million) in the Ninh Phuc IZ, northern Ninh Binh province, local media reported.

Once operational in mid 2011, the plant will produce around 1,760 tons of urea fertilizer a day, or 560,000 tons a year, contributing to increasing local fertilizer supplies to between 65 per cent and 70 per cent of demand with expansion of the Phu My Fertilizer Plant and Ha Bac Fertilizer Plant.

Addressing the groundbreaking ceremony of the plant, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai noted the importance of the project for the development of the country’s agriculture and its economy.

“The construction of the Ninh Binh Fertilizer Plant will help ensure food production safety and national food security in the current context of unexpected changes in the world’s crude oil and other commodities prices,” he said.

He said that the stable operation of the plant will provide a plentiful fertilizer source for agricultural production. (VNA, Saigon Liberation)
