The Netherlands’ Vanoord and the Lung Lo Company of Vietnam and May 2 completed a breakwater project at Vietnam’s first oil refinery Dung Quat, five month ahead of the schedule, the Labor newspaper reported, citing the project’s management board.

The breakwater is the first out of seven packages to be accomplished at the oil refinery after 18 months of construction, the newspaper said.

The important breakwater, measured at 1.6 kilometer in length, 11 meters in width and 10 meters in height, was built at a cost of VND1.5 trillion (US$93.75 million) to facilitate ship transportation at the refinery’s harbor.

Kicked off in June 2005, the US$2.5 billion Dung Quat oil refinery is expected to process 6.5 million tons of crude oil a year once it is fully operational in February 2009.

The plant, with products of propylene, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), lead-free petrol, diesel and fuel oil, is estimated refine 33 per cent of the country’s entire demand for petrol and oil. (Labor, VNA)
