The Vietnamese government has recently decided to add a project building a 60-meter self-lifting oilrig platform to the list of key oil products, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai said in an official document.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade is requested to coordinate with relevant agencies to undertake manufacture of locally-made parts of the oilrig, the Industry and Trade newspaper reported April 18.

State-owned oil monopoly PetroVietnam group is responsible for guiding the project’s investor to select competent EPC contractor to conduct the project.

PV Shipyard, which is assigned to act as the project’s investor, said that the automatic platform, to be floated at sea, represents Vietnam’s first mechanically engineered product employing high-level technology.

The Vung Tau city-based PV Shipyard has signed a cooperative agreement with LeTourneau Technology Inc., a U.S. manufacturer of front-end loaders, log stackers and self-elevating mobile offshore drilling rigs, to develop projects to build mobile oil platforms in Vietnam. (Industry & Trade)
