Her Majesty’s Canadian Ship (HMCS) Regina arrived in Ho Chi Minh City on June 4. Commanding Officer Haydn Edmundson and his crew of 240 sailors came for a friendship visit to help celebrate the 35th anniversary of Canada-Vietnam diplomatic relations.

This is the second visit of the Commanding Officer to Vietnam after the first one in 1996.
The visit is very special, in part because the ship will be joined this time by the Commander of Canada’s fleet in the Pacific, Rear-Admiral Tyrone Pile.

While in HCMC, Commander Edmundson and Rear-Admiral Pile was joined by Ambassador Lessard and Consul General William Johnston to host a series of friendship activities for Vietnamese government, military and business guests. Canadian companies and their Vietnamese clients boarded the ship for a corporate benefit dinner with the profits going towards “Rose Charity Vietnam” for the benefit of needy Vietnamese people. Rear Admiral Pile and Commander Edmundson also made diplomatic visits with Vietnamese military and navy officials as well as the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee and participated in a wreath-laying ceremony at Ho Chi Minh monument.
