Vietnam President Wraps up European Tour, Cooperative Potentials Expanded
Vietnamese President and his entourage have wrapped up successfully the nine-day tour to Australia, Norway and Greece, with a series of deals and pacts pledged, opening new prospect for the cooperation between Vietnam and three nations and the Vietnam-EU relations, Communist Party said on its website June 10.
Triet told local reporters after he returned to Hanoi that he hoped the trip would contribute to strengthen the bilateral ties between Vietnam and the three nations, particularly the cooperation in economic, trade and investment which are still modest currently.
At the talks with leaders of the three countries, Triet expressed the need of closer ties in fields of culture, education and science and technology, agreeing to boost the cooperation of mechanism, tourism with Austria, shipbuilding and oil and gas with Norway, tourism and marine services with Greece.
“I expected after the trip, Austria, Norway and Greece will give more favorable conditions to Vietnam’s export goods to each nation as well as to the EU market,” the president told reporters.
Over 60 firms accompanying the president Triet signed contracts worth hundreds of million of dollar with businesses of the three nations.
Vietnam also gained important agreements, including one on double taxation avoidance with Austria, an assistance project to upgrade water supply network in northern Dien Bien Phu city and build a new water supply system in northern Lai Chau town with Norway and agreement on culture cooperation with Greece.
Triet’s nine-day trip to Austria, Norway and Greece is the first one made by a Vietnamese state leader since the country set up diplomatic ties with the three nations early the 1970s. (Website of CPV)
