Vietnam, Russia to Boost Strategic Ties, Expand Trade to US$10 Bln in 2015

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Minh Triet October 27 held talks on regional and international issues and reached common consensus to further accelerate strategic and all-rounded cooperation and expand bilateral trade to US$3 billion in 2010 and US$10 billion in 2015, Vietnamese state media said on October 28.
 
President Dmitry Medvedev affirmed that Russia is prioritizing to develop the strategic ties with Vietnam, highlighting roles played by Vietnam in Russia’s Asia-Pacific Strategy, the Labor newspaper said.
 
President Nguyen Minh Triet for his part emphasized that Vietnam considers developing strategic ties with Russia as top priority in its external relations and policies, the paper said.
 
Dmitry Medvedev and Nguyen Minh Triet also agreed to increase regular political dialogues.
 
The Russian president also pledged to help train and create favorable conditions for Vietnamese to study and work in Russia.
 
After the talks, two presidents witnessed signing cooperation pacts between governments on intellectual property right protection, illegal immigrants, working terms of Vietnamese workers in Russia, cooperation in seismic oil and gas exploration and exploitation via Vietsovpetro, medium and long-term action agenda in trade and investment from now to 2012, agreements between Vietnam News Agency and ITAR-TASS, memorandum of understanding on bauxite and aluminum exploitation complex, the Nhan Dan (The People) newspaper said.
 
On the same day, Triet also had a cordial meeting with Russian Prime Minister Putin, and Triet hailed roles by Putin in strengthening the bilateral cooperation.
 
On this occasion, Vietnam decides to exempt visas for Russian citizens to enter Vietnam from early 2009.
 
Bilateral trade soars 15 per cent on year from 2005 to now and is expected to reach US$1.6 billion this year, US$3 billion in 2010 and US$10 billion in 2015, Nhan Dan said. (The People, Labor)
