Vietnam President to Visit Venezuela, Attend APEC Summit in Peru
Vietnamese President Nguyen Minh Triet and his spouse will pay an official visit to Venezuela and attend 16th APEC summit slated Nov 21-23 in Peru at the invitations of his Venezuela counterpart Hugo Chavez Frias and Peru President Alan Garcia Perez, Vietnam's Foreign Ministry said.
President Hugo Chavez recently said that Vietnam and Venezuela will set up a bilateral development fund and sign a number of cooperation pacts during his Vietnamese counterpart Triet's upcoming visit.
The Asean country and the Latin American country agreed to focus on strengthening bilateral cooperation in oil refineries, economics, finance, trade, industry, agriculture in the coming years.
President Hugo Chavez visited Vietnam in July 2006 and Party Chief Nong Duc Manh visited Venezuela in May of 2007.
Bilateral diplomatic ties were established in 1989 and two-way trade reached $8.1 million in 2006. (The People, VNS)
