The Hong Kong-Vietnam Chamber of Commerce (HKVCC) chaired Dr. Jonathan Choi officially made its debut at the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, China Nov 3, Vietnam News Agency reported.

The chamber will help businesses of the both sides to seek opportunities to boost trade and economic cooperation, said the chairman.

He added that the foundation was an essential step following the establishment of the Hong Kong-Vietnam Business Association.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Vietnamese Consul General in Hong Kong and Macau Pham Cao Phong noted that after over two decades of reform, Vietnam has become an attractive and safe destination for foreign investors with high economic growth rate and young and skilled population.

Trade and investment activities between Vietnam and Hong Kong have been developing rapidly in recent years, Phong said, elaborating that two-way trade surpassed US$3 billion in 2007, up 43.7 per cent on-year.

In the first three quarters of this year, the figure reached $2.72 billion, an on-year increased of 25% and is expected to soar to between $3.5-$3.6 billion for the whole year.

Currently, Hong Kong is Vietnam’s seventh largest investor with $6.3 billion worth of investment in 494 projects. (VNA)
