State leaders of Vietnam and Mongolia have agreed that the two nations would reinforce the traditional cooperation and friendship as well as boost further economic ties which remain still modest, Vietnamese state media said.

At the high-ranking talk on October 30 in the Mongolian capital, the visiting President Nguyen Minh Triet and the host Nambaryn Enkhbayar discussed the present situation in their countries and exchanged views on matters relating to bilateral ties as well as a series of regional and international issues on common concern.

The two sides agreed to cooperate in addressing the issue of transport to facilitate the exchange of goods so that two-way trade could be increased to US$10 million by 2020.

The Mongolian leader expressed hope that Vietnam would become a bridge for increased cooperation between Mongolia and Southeast Asian countries.

On the occasion, President Triet announced his country would present 1,000 tons of rice and ambulances worth of US$300,000 to the people of Mongolia. Vietnam also agreed to sell Mongolia its original price.

Following the talks, the two leaders witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding on economic and industrial cooperation between Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade and Mongolia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Vietnam has invested US$22 million into Mongolia since 1991, Voice of Vietnam said.

Later, Triet and his delegation met with the Chiarman of the Mongolian Parliament, Damdin Demberel, and the first Deputy Prime Minister Norovyn Altanhuyag. (New Hanoi, VNS)
