Saigon Co.op Mulls Over VND50 Bln Vegetable Packing Center

Saigon Co.op, owner of Co.opMart system in the southern hub Ho Chi Minh city, planned to invest VND50 billion to build an organic vegetable packing center.
 
Bui Hanh Thu, deputy director of the Saigon Co.op, expected that the center will meet increasing demand for organic vegetables
 
Ho Chi Minh city now has 102 communes growing vegetables with total area of around 2,878 hectares, mostly in suburban districts of Cu Chi, Binh Chanh, Hoc Mon and District 12.
 
The communes are capable of supplying 102,795 tons yearly, but meeting only 25 per cent-30 per cent of the city’s total demand.
 
According to the city’s Agriculture and Rural Development service, the city now has more than 30 companies registering to sell organic vegetables, including Metro Cash & Carry, Saigon Co.op, Vissan, VF, Cholimex, Kim Son, and Thuan Phat. (Rauhoaqua)
