Vietnam’s technology market will see an on-year growth rate of 21 per cent, the German market research company GfK forecast.

According to GfK, total sales of technology products, including consumer electronics, home appliances, and intelligent and telecommunication technology products will reach US$4.7 billion.

GfK Vietnam estimates that an average per capita US$53.6 was spent on technology goods, against US$44.4 last year.

Residents of central Danang City were the country’s biggest spenders, with per capita expense of US$285 last year, followed by Hanoi and HCM City, with US$282 USD each.

GfK also forecasts that sales of consumer electronics, home appliances, IT and telecommunication products will reach US$908 million, US$1.18 billion, US$1.24 billion and US$1.27 billion, respectively.

Because of the decrease in the consumer electronics prices due to the global economic crisis and the high demand of local customers, by next year, home and cellular phones will top the amount of revenue with an on-year increase of 16 per cent.

By next year, 11.38 million phones will be sold with total revenue of US$1.2 billion. This year it is estimated that 9.2 million phones will have been sold.

Phones valued at less than US$100 will be the best sellers.

The three local big telecom suppliers of Viettel, MobiFone and Vinaphone said they had received 30 million new subscribers since the beginning of the year.

Following the home and cellular phone market is the LCD and Plasma TV market, according for 41 percent of consumer electronics sales. (VNA)
