The U.S. Association of Textile and Garment Importers have applauded the U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC)’s decision on ending the monitoring program on apparel imports from Vietnam, the Vietnam News Agency reported.
Laura Jones, managing director of the association said "in fact, in all three reviews, the U.S. did not find any evidence on dumping. This has proved that the program should not have been launched right from the first review."

She said the monitoring program had forced U.S. importers to change plans on finding suppliers, causing cost rise and reducing efficiency.

DOC officially announced November 21 that there was no enough evidence to launch anti-dumping investigation into apparel products imported from Vietnam.

However, the department still maintains the website "Monitoring Program on Textile and Garment Imports from Vietnam" until January 20, 2009.

The program was started since Vietnam officially joined the World Trade Organization (WTO) in January 2007.

Vietnam is forecast to outstrip Mexico and India to become the second largest apparel exporter to the U.S. this year by shipping US$5 billion of textiles and garments to the foreign market, up US$400 million from last year. (VNA)
