First Pilot Chip Project Launched in Vietnam
The HCM City National University late last week launched a pilot manufacturing project for a microprocessor called SG-8V1, the first of its kind in Vietnam.
The VND12 billion (US$710,000) project aims to prefect the SigmaK3 microprocessor, remained SG-8V1, for mass commercial production.
The two-year project, carried out by the University’s Integrated Circuit Research and Education Center (ICDREC), will churn out 150,000 SG-8V1 chips and other support tools for research and development of the SG-8V1 microprocessor.
Ngo Duc Hoang, director of the university center, said the SG-8V1 microprocessor is priced 30 per cent lower than similar chips manufactured in other countries.
The home-made chip targeted industrial goals such as use for electronic products, defense and exploration purposes and research and education. (Local sources)
