The state-owned oil monopoly PetroVietnam group is likely to become investor of 3,600-MW coal-fired power plant in southern Hau Giang province instead of the Électricité De France (EDF).

The group is also received permission for the Ministry of Construction to invest in 2,400-MW Quang Trach power center in central Quang Binh province.

According to the group’s development strategy for the 2008-2015 period, PetroVietnam has targeted to supply between 10 to 15 per cent of the country’s electricity output.

This year, the group targets revenues of VND316.4 trillion (US$19.175 billion) and contributes VND113 trillion (US$6.848 billion) to the state coffer. (Investment)
