The Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin), a leading coal miner in Vietnam, has targeted to produce 33.5 million tons of coal in 2009.

The total sales target for next year has been set at 36 million tons, which includes 2.5 million tons stockpiled in reserve stores.

The group will also try to produce 9,000 tons of copper, 6,500 tons of tin and 300 kilograms of gold.

To reach the figures, Vinacomin said it would focus on marketing and looking after its workers. It pledged to implement a range of proactive measures, such as the expansion of its sales network to boost domestic market share, while tightening up the monitoring of coal production to put a stop to illegal exploitation.

In 2008, the group is estimated to sell 35 million-36 million tons, down 15.5 per cent on-year, including 17.7 million tons for exports, down 26.7 per cent on-year. (Vietnam & World Economy)
