Vietnam, Malaysia See Cooperative Prospect in Plentiful Fields: PM

Vietnam and Malaysia have seen positive prospects in their multi-faceted cooperation over the past year, eloquently demonstrated with the bilateral trade value of over US$4 billion in 2008, up 22 per cent on year, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said while receiving President of the Malaysian Senate Abdul Hamid Pawanteh Jan 6.
 
PM Dung believed the fine development of the two nations’ relations has contributed significantly to the region’s cooperation and development. He also applauded the cooperation and exchange between the Malaysian Senate and the Vietnamese National Assembly.
 
President Abdul, who is leading a delegation of Malaysian businessmen for a visit to Vietnam, assured uninterrupted flows of investment into Vietnam have proven the country’s dynamic and successful development.       
 
He said foreign investors including those from his country always believe in Vietnam’s bright future.
 
Malaysia now ranks second among 60 countries and territories investing in Vietnam, with more than 300 projects valued at around US$18 billion.
 
On the occasion, Mr. Abdul briefed PM Dung the initial results in implementing a cooperative project on electricity generation in Vietnam, which sees attention of three Malaysian firms.
 
The project is scheduled to start in 2010 and become operational in 2014.  
 
Abdul also added Malaysian firms plan to join hands with the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) to set up a power generation JS company. (chinhphu.vn)
