Vietnam Targets US$1 Bln Software Revenues by 2010
Vietnam’s software industry has set a target to make US$1 billion revenue by 2010.
Despite global economic slowdown in 2008, Vietnam’s information technology (IT) sector generally and software sector particularly made an impressive growth, heard a conference on January 2.
According to statistics released at the conference, the IT industry made revenue of US$4.5 billion in 2008, up 20 per cent on year, of which hardware sector gained US$700 million, up 16 per cent on year and software sector fetched US$670 million, up 35 per cent.
Vietnam software industry's revenue grew six times in 2000-2006 and accounted for 0.4 per cent of the country's gross domestic product.
Vietnam plans to become the third largest supplier of software developers in the world after India and China in the near future. (Vietnam Economic Times)
