Vietnam Strives for Success of Regional Parliamentary Forum: NA Chairman
Chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly Nguyen Phu Trong highly valued Laos’ hosting of the 17th annual meeting of the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF-17), affirming that his delegation will strive to contribute to the event’s success.
The Vietnamese legislator made the affirmation while holding talks with General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP), State President Choumaly Sayasone and Prime Minister Bouasone Bouphavanh on the sidelines of the forum, which is slated January 11-12 in Vientiane.
During his separate meeting with PM Bouasone Bouphavanh, Chairman Trong informed the host of the two countries’ close cooperation in bilateral and multilateral aspects.
For his part, the host highly valued the Vietnamese NA delegation’s attendance at the APPF-17, describing it as an indication of the friendship, special solidarity and cooperation between the two countries.
The two sides agreed to work together to seek more effective measures for the bilateral cooperation and each country’s development.
In 2008, the trade value between Vietnam and Laos was estimated to reach US$450 million, up 44 per cent on year. The two sides target to raise the two-way trade to US$1 billion in 2010 and US$2 billion in 2015.
Last year also saw the strong coordination between localities of the two nations, particularly among border sharing localities and major cities.
The APPF-17 focuses its discussions on security-politic and economic-trade issues, cooperation in Asia-Pacific region and APPF activities in the future. (chinhphu.vn)
