Vietnamese textile and garment producers are advised to prioritize imports of materials and accessories from ASEAN countries.

According to the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (Vitas), importing materials and accessories from ASEAN nations will reduce production costs, increase competitiveness and cut transport charges.

Vistas said hi-end textile and garment products are no longer good-selling as previous time due to the global financial crisis. Thus, enterprises should rearrange production, focusing on popular products for better sales.

This year, Vietnam’s apparel sector will have to make great efforts to earn US$9.2 billion-US$9.5 billion from exports in 2009 as the world textile and garment demand is forecast to fall 15 per cent. 2008’s figure was reported at US$9.1 billion. (Investment)
