Bulgarian President Becomes First-Foot of Vietnam Diplomacy

Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov and his high-profile delegation visited Vietnam from January 29-23, bringing good luck to both nations with a series of cooperative deals.
 
President Parvanov, making his trip at the invitation of Vietnamese President Nguyen Minh Triet, was accompanied by ministers of justice, environment and water, chairman of Bulgaria-Vietnam Friendship Parliament Group, Bulgarian Ambassador to Vietnam, Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Economy and Energy and Culture.
 
During talks with his host Jan 31, Parvanov and Triet discussed orientations and measures to boost the two nations’ multifaceted ties, particularly in fields of infrastructure, environment, energy, agriculture, pharmacy, transport, education, tourism and labor.    
 
The two leaders took the occasion to commit the continued support and cooperation mutually at regional and international forums.
 
They later witnessed signing of an agreement on legal and judiciary cooperation between the two Ministries of Justice and a program of cultural cooperation for the 2009-12 period between the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam and the Ministry of Culture of Bulgaria.
 
President Parvanov’s visit was wrapped up with a joint communiqué, marking the two sides’ determination to bring the bilateral relations to a new height.
 
The two-way trade between Vietnam and Bulgaria reached US$100 million last year. The Southeast Asian nation mainly shipped coal, coffee, rubber, seafood, foodstuff, pepper, cashew nut, textiles and garments products to Bulgaria while imported chemicals, medicines, red wine and machines and equipment for shipbuilding industry from the country.
 
Bulgaria now ranks 56th out of total 81 nations and territories having invested in Vietnam, with five FDI projects worth of US$12.9 million.
 
Currently, there are around 395 Vietnamese laborers working in the country. (CPV, Financial Times)
