Vietnam Prepares to Form National Power Development Plan VII

Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai has recently assigned the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) to prepare for setup of the national electricity development plan VII as soon as possible.
 
Hai requested the MoIT to appraise and approve new power centers including Cam Pha 3, Nghe An, Na Duong 2, Thai Nguyen, Hai Ha, Bac Giang, and Binh Dinh for the plan.
 
Early next month, the MoIT will submit to the prime minister energy balance implementation until 2015 conducted by the state-owned Electricity of Vietnam Group (EVN) as a necessary data to apply vapor condensation technology for building O Mon 5 power plant.
 
In the second quarter of this year, the MoIT will submit to the prime minister an electricity saving project, as well as the law on energy efficiency and conservation.
 
The ministry will also accelerate preparation to start construction of the country's first nuclear power plants with a combined capacity of 4,000 MW in 2013 in central Ninh Thuan province.
 
The deputy PM, moreover, asked the Ministry of Finance to ensure efficient investment supply for power projects approved by the prime minister including electricity supply project for five central highlands provinces, and Quang Tri hydropower project; as well as prioritize official development assistances (ODA) to power projects under the national power development plan VI.
 
He also requested the state bank to direct commercial banks to arrange sufficient capital for power projects of the expanded Uong Bi 2, Huoi Quang, Ban Chat, and Lai Chau.
 
Vietnam will build and operate 135 power plants with combined capacity of 48,744 MW from now to 2015 under the plan VI. (VNA)
