Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Le Danh Vinh who has recently been on a visit to EU for expanding exports markets has told the state-run Voice of Vietnam Station that Vietnam targets to increase exports to EU to 15 per cent this year.
Deputy Minister Vinh has just led a Vietnamese trade delegation to work with officials from France, Germany, Belgium, The Netherlands, Austria, Britain, Italy, Spain, Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria, Sweden, Czech and Romania to discuss legal documents and policies.
Over the past nine years, bilateral trade value between Vietnam and EU reached US$76 billion, of which Vietnam shipped US$50.4 billion to EU and imported US$26.1 billion, Vinh noted.
Vietnam’s key exports to the EU market include footwear, apparel, furniture, seafood and the Asean country buys machinery, medicine, materials for apparel industry, steel and fertilizer.
So far, Vietnam and EU countries have signed 10 agreements to boost bilateral trade, Vinh said.
The EU market consists of 27 member-countries which stretch over four million square meters with a population of 460 million and GDP of US$15 trillion that accounts for 27 per cent of the world’s GDP value.
Trade with non-bloc markets including Vietnam reaches US$2.8 trillion, making up 25 per cent of the global trade, Vinh added. (VOV)
