Vietnam PM Asks Vinacomin to Produce 40 Mln Tons of Coal in 2009
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has asked Vietnam’s top miner Vinacomin to produce 40 million tons of coal this year, compared with 38.5 million tons last year, and ensure jobs for 1.2 million workers.
During a meeting with representatives of the state-owned Vinacomin February 24 Dung also urged the group to raise production to 100 million tons by 2015.
The government leader also demanded to make Vinacomin one of strong economic groups of the world in the fields of mining and energy.
In the first two months of this year, the group is estimated to make revenues of more than VND6 trillion (US$355 million), up 8 per cent on-year, including VND4.2 trillion from coal sales.
It also targets to make total revenues of VND47 trillion for the whole 2009.
Earlier, Vinacomin said it would invest VND25 trillion (US$1.47 billion) in development projects in 2009. (VNA, Labor, Youth)
