Many Apparel Enterprises Cut Working Hours on Lack of Orders
Many textile and garment enterprises in Ho Chi Minh City are cutting working hours due to a drop in the number of orders.
An official from Ho Chi Minh City Association of Garments, Textiles, Embroidery and Knitting (Agtek) said about 40 per cent of Agtek’s member enterprises are applying this solution.
Workers at these companies are working only 7 hours per day, or have an additional day-off per week instead of increasing by 10 per cent-15 per cent of working time per day as previously.
Export Orders signed by Agtek members have dropped 30 per cent-40 per cent as compared with the previous time.
The Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (Vitas) estimated around 10,000 textile workers, mostly at foreign-invested enterprises will fall into unemployment. (Youth)
