The state-owned Electricity of Vietnam Group (EVN)’s Chairman of Board of Directors Dao Van Hung sent a document to Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung expressing the group’s disagreement with the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT)’s plan on restructuring the competitive power market and power sector.

The MoIT’s plan is unsuitable and is likely to narrow the group’s operations, making it not strong enough as suggested by the state policy of being a strong economic group of the nation, explained the chairman.

The proposed plan, which only mentions the division of EVN’s units but not refers to other state-owned power generation units, is incomprehensive and infeasible, said the group.

Regarding the National Power Development Plan VI, the proposed separation of power source firms out of EVN may lead to stagnation or low implementation of power projects, causing power shortage as these firms are not prestigious and strong enough to borrow a huge loan and instruct the execution of power projects on time, added the group.

However, an official of the MoIT’s Electricity Regulatory Authority of Vietnam (ERAV) said that the plan is not contrary to the PM’s approved plans on forming the power generation market. (Labor)
