Seafood Export Slightly Down in Jan-Feb
Vietnam is estimated to export US$461 million worth of seafood products in the first two months of 2009, down 5.8 per cent on year, the General Statistics Office said.
In February, the country has exported US$250 million worth of the product, up by 15.6 per cent from February.
The GSO showed that the country spent US$35 million on importing seafood and aquatic products for processing during the Jan-Feb period.
According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), the country’s seafood export to EU has dropped in the past two months, prompting local companies to turn into Asian market.
The shift helped raise seafood export to China by nearly 200 per cent; to Singapore, 121 per cent and to South Korea, 32.6 per cent. (GSO February 2009)
