Apparel enterprises in Ho Chi Minh City will get supports from the Netherlands to boost export to Europe under an export support program by the Dutch government for exporters.

Accordingly, each enterprise joining the program will receive EUR60,000 to raise production capacity, meet international standards and increase the added value for exports.

At present, a number of textile and garment enterprises are facing difficulties as their export orders sharply dropped so many of them have to narrow production by between 30 per cent and 50 per cent.

The Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (Vitas) estimated around 10,000 textile workers, mostly at foreign-invested enterprises will fall into unemployment.

The government of Vietnam has pledged to provide support to the industry by adopting a number of favorable policies regarding exports, labor, finance and taxes. (GSO Feb 2009)
