Canada Sues Vietnamese Footwear Exporters for Dumping

The Canada Border Services Agency has initiated an investigation against waterproof footwear imported from Vietnam following a complaint by Canadian manufacturers.
 
The Shoe Manufacturers’ Association of Canada, based in the province of Quebec, said in the complaint that rubber footwear and soles from Vietnam are sold at unfair prices in Canada.
 
The lawsuit also named China. The agency has yet to named individual producers but advised Vietnamese exporters to prepare for the lawsuit.
 
They would have 37 days to respond to questionnaires from the agency and should strictly follow its requirements.
 
The agency would issue a preliminary determination in May and dumping duties will be imposed on Vietnamese footwear if Canadian authorities find evidence of injury or threat of injury to Canadian manufacturers.
 
Vietnamese footwear exports were worth US$4.8 billion last year, including US$93 million to Canada. (Thanh Nien Daily)
