Vietnam's trade with Hungary reportedly reached US$100 million in 2008 and it aims for bigger trade with the European country this year, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Bui Xuan Khu told a Vietnam-Hungary business forum held in Hanoi on March 5.

State Secretary of Hungary's Economy Ministry Garamhegyi Ábel, Ambassador to Vietnam Vizi Laszlo and Rudolf Riedle, chairman of the Hungary-Vietnam Business Council, who attended the event, said that amid the global downturn, small and medium enterprises should sit together to find measures to solve difficulties, and Hungarian businesses are interested in the market in Vietnam.

Vietnam's main exports to Hungary are farm products, food and manufacturing products while the East-European country ships medicines, healthcare, energy and railway equipment.
