Vietnam-Spain 08 Trade Soars 24 per cent to US$1.59 Bln

Bilateral trade between Vietnam and Spain hit a record high of US$1.59 billion in 2008, an on-year increase of 24 per cent, said the Embassy of Spain’s Economic and Commercial Office to Vietnam.
 
Vietnam exported US$1.43 billion worth of goods to Spain during the year, up 25 per cent on-year. Among the country’s main exports, manufactured products took the lead with US$828 million, followed by food with US$400 million.
 
Meanwhile, the country spent US$157 million on imports from the European country, an on-year rise of 15.2 per cent.
 
Currently, dozens of Spanish businesses have interest in the Vietnamese market, said Spanish Economic and Commercial Counselor in Vietnam, Alberto Cerdán, adding that Spanish firms have already established in sectors of architecture, chemicals, shipbuilding, handicrafts and leather in Vietnam. (VNS)
