Ford Vietnam March 10 announced the completion of a new line at the Hai Duong production to assemble Mondeo after one-year construction, state media reported.

It is the final item in a US$10 million investment plan pursued by Ford Vietnam to raise its annual production capacity by 35 per cent, reaching 9,500 cars per year.

With the inauguration of such a state-of-the-art line, Vietnamese consumers will have opportunity to buy domestically-assembled Mondeo cars, whose prices are expected to be much lower than the imported ones.

Ford Vietnam has currently produced and assembled a range of luxury cars for tourism, sport and semi-transportation purposes, such as Ford Mondeo, Ford Focus, Ford Everest and Ford Escape.

Ford began operations in Vietnam in 1995, with a registered capital of more than US$100 million.

In 2008, Ford Vietnam recorded a sales increase of 108 per cent from 2007.

The US$10-million investment underscores Ford’s commitment to developing and implementing an aggressive growth strategy in Vietnam, said Ford ASEAN president David N. Alden at a meeting with Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai on March 9.

“We’re very optimistic about Ford’s long-term potential in Vietnam – the key market for Ford in ASEAN region,” Alden affirmed. (Young People, chinhphu.vn)
