The first phase of the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center, the largest of its kind in Vietnam so far, was put into operation Mar 12 in Ho Chi Minh City.
The US$30-million first phase covering 31,300 sq.m consists of a 10,000 sq.m-hall, a 5—seat conference room, five other small rooms for between 30-200 people each, a 500-seat restaurant, a cafeteria for 300 guests and a 15,000-su.m outdoor exhibition area.
The center located in Phu My Hung New Urban Area in local District 7, is estimated to be six times larger than the city's Hoang Van Thu International Exhibition Center, and meets international standards both in size and facilities.
The construction is being undertaken by the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center Joint Venture Co. Ltd. (SECC), which is set up by the Saigon Tourism Corporation (Saigon Tourist) and the Phu My Hung Joint Stock Company.
Once completed, the center costing US$300 million will have four halls with an area of 11,000 sq.m each and a capacity of 1,500 to 1,800 stalls, an outdoor exhibition covering 20,000 sq.m, two four-star and five-star hotels with 1,000 rooms, a 38-storey office building, an international convention center for 2,000 people.
With its multiple functions, the center is expected help the city become an attractive destination for MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, exhibitions) tourism, said the investors. (VNS)
