Vietnam's 08 Exports to Germany Hit US$2B, Up 11.7 per cent On Year

Vietnam reportedly reaped over US$2 billion from goods exports to Germany last year, up 11.7 per cent on-year, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).
 
Among the country’s key export items, garments and textiles took the lead with US$395.47 million, up 19.1 per cent, followed by footwear with US$392.14 million, and seafood with US$206.3 million.
 
Tea exports obtained high growth of 67.9 per cent to US$5 million, said the GSO.
 
Among EU members, Germany is now Vietnam’s biggest trade partner. In 2006, trade between the two nations was US$2.3 billion.
 
In the first nine month of 2008, German invested in eight projects worth US$53.3 billion in the Southeast Asian country, raising its valid projects to 107 valued at US$607 million, standing at the 21st among countries and territories making direct investment in Vietnam. (VNS)
