Vietnam Apparels, Footwear Exports Obtain US$2.81 Bln in First Quarter
Vietnam is estimated to have pocketed US$2.81 billion from exporting apparel and footwear products in the first three months this year, down 3.42 per cent on-year, said the General Statistic Office March 24.
Of the figure, textiles and garments account for some US$1.9 billion, a drop of 0.1 per cent on year, footwear was valued at US$915 million, an on-year decrease of 10.8 per cent.
In March, the apparel export value is estimated at US$600 million, up 6.38 per cent on-month while the footwear at US$260 million, down 11.56 per cent.
In the three-month period, Vietnam is forecast to have spent US$1.32 billion on importing cottons, textile fibers, cloth and materials for the industries of apparel and footwear.
Of the total, the country spent US$44 million on importing cottons, (down 59.2 per cent on-year), US$142 million for textile fibers (-28.7 per cent), US$761 million for cloth (-15.5 per cent), and US$372 million for apparel and footwear materials (-26.8 per cent). (GSO March 2009)
